Hands of Hope July Newsletter 2008

We are glad to be back safe and sound from Zimbabwe but it wasn’t easy to leave in the midst of the biggest economic, political and social crisis the country has experienced in recent years. Rather than focus on the harsh realities let me share with you what is happening in one community.

Pastor Henry Zihove

Almost two weeks ago Jephat our National Director, Garaiki our National Administrator and I went to visit one of our new orphan feeding projects in Rugare a high-density area. We showed up unannounced during feeding time. When we arrived at the church we saw a team of about 15 adults led by Pastor Henry Zihove ministering to over 100 orphans. Hands of Hope help feed 50 each day but the church (poor as it is) feeds 100 and not just once a day but twice. We saw:

· A work crew preparing food

· Young children playing organized games

· Older children worshipping

· Devotions before lunch

We stopped giving the church money for their daily vegetables and challenged them to grow their own. I wish I had room to show you pictures of the garden produced from the seeds that we gave them – spectacular!

Pastor Henry and his wife have taken in 15 orphans who all live in their small and I mean small, 2-bedroom home – they believe that faith without works is dead!

As a country, Zimbabwe is in sad shape but the church is growing and ministering like never before! Thanks for loving, supporting, praying and taking a moment to visit our website at hohafrica.org.

Loving orphans one at a time,

Glen and Patty
